Anxiety/Depression
Depression is a common mental health condition that affects many Australians every day. Depression affects how you feel, think and behave, and it also has physical symptoms.
Anxiety and depression are different conditions, but it isn’t uncommon for them to occur together.
We all go through anxiety or depression at some point in our lives. But the only difference is that some can control it in a short time while some take a little more time. When emotion starts controlling the immortal mind, then the mind becomes restless, in such a situation it is very natural not to understand anything.
Our sessions will be friendly and tailored to your thinking pattern. I help you to become aware of how your thoughts are impacting your emotions and behaviors. I will guide you through mindfulness therapy to observe your thoughts.
Mindfulness through Meditation
Practising mindfulness involves breathing methods, guided imagery, and other practices to relax the body and mind and help reduce stress. Meditation is a practice to engage in contemplation or reflection or could be expressed as engaging in a mental exercise (such as concentration on one’s breathing or repetition of a mantra) to reach a heightened level of spiritual awareness with oneself
It was 20 years ago I was introduced to meditation and mindfulness and was instructed to close my eyes to “connect to my inner self”.
I had no idea what that meant, but I just decided to follow the instructor to better understand if meditation and mindfulness would help me achieve the outcomes I wanted – It did and ever since I have been using Mindfulness therapy/ Mediation therapy with my clients subject to their presenting issues.
It is the feeling of calmness in my mind and complete relaxation in my body that is what I will guide you to do, which is simply to keep your focus.
Multicultural counselling or therapy in different languages
Australia is a multicultural community. Nearly one-quarter of our population was born in another country. Being culturally sensitive is a natural response and that forms your identity. It is not easy to come to another country and adopt the culture and civilization of that country. In such a situation, you may be facing language issues, isolation, loneliness, struggling to adapt to a new culture or being unable to manage a new life.
The therapy modality I use will emphasise the understanding of a client’s background and belief system as it relates to their race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender or other important elements that make up someone’s culture and/or identity that might influence their mental health.
I recognise and understand that different values and cultural attitudes exist in different cultural groups. Language may also be a barrier for some clients in their attempt to seek help. For clients who are looking for a bilingual counsellor, I will be able to assist in three different languages – English, Hindi, and Bangla.
Just talk…
Sometimes just talking helps a lot to manage our stress level. Talking can provide stress relief, and can lighten the load of a concern someone might be having. Talking about a problem can help to start breaking it into smaller parts, which can stop you from feeling so overwhelmed. So I am there to hear you and I wont be judgmental . Nothing has changed that caused the suffering in our lives, but talking has drained off some of the pain and this brings relief.
